Positive Energy Solar: A bright spot in New Mexico’s economy

Solar is a bright spot in New Mexico’s economy. More solar was installed in the US in 2013 than in any previous year. In New Mexico, over three megawatts (3 MW) of solar was installed in 2013, enough to power over 600 homes. Positive Energy Solar, a local New Mexico business, was part of that industry growth posting record breaking sales in 2013. Positive Energy Solar became the #1 solar installer in New Mexico in 2013 and expects to double its revenue in 2014. This growth is creating jobs and fueling the economy in New Mexico.

“Solar has reached the tipping point. Solar electricity is now cheaper than grid energy. More business and homeowners are taking advantage of solar to reduce costs and hedge against future increases in the price of fossil based energy.” said Regina Wheeler, CEO Positive Energy Solar.

Positive Energy Solar was founded in Santa Fe in 1997 and has posted steady growth for the past 8 years. This growth is causing noticeable changes in its offices in Albuquerque, Las Cruces and Santa Fe. In the Santa Fe and Taos area, the company is consolidating its operations from three offices into one larger, more convenient location in Santa Fe. The company will now serve northern New Mexico from its Santa Fe office. “Consolidating to one office in Santa Fe allows us to leverage our best resources on each project we do in northern New Mexico while controlling costs,” Wheeler said. Positive Energy Solar moved its Las Cruces operations to a new downtown location to accommodate additional installation crews, a larger warehouse and more design and sales staff. The Albuquerque operations will also be moving this year.

Besides adding team members and moving to larger offices, Positive Energy Solar will install two 1.5 Megawatt projects in Santa Fe this year. One system will power the pumps that bring water from the Rio Grande to the Buckman Direct Diversion Plant and one will provide almost half of the power for the Santa Fe Community College main campus. Schools and municipalities are realizing that solar allows them to reduce operating costs and use savings to fund programs and services.

“Our success is built on our commitment quality solar systems and customer satisfaction. People get the best value and a long term solar partner when they work with Positive Energy Solar. We live in the communities that we serve and are a values based business, so we want the community to benefit from our business,” said Randy Sadewic, Co-owner and President.

An employee owned company, Positive Energy Solar also became the largest certified Benefits Corporation in New Mexico in 2013. This means that Positive Energy Solar provides good wages, benefits, and growth opportunities for team members; contributes to schools and non profits; delivers 100% satisfaction and selects its products for long term performance and low environmental impact.
